Presided over by the Principal of the college the function was attended by the local MP as the chief guest while the DC of Dhaka was present as the special
guest. Distinguished guests and guardians also attended the inaugural function. The events of the day-long programme included music, recitation, dance, story telling, extempore speech, pantomime and chorus. The function was followed by distribution of prizes. The chief guest delivered a valuable speech. In his speech, he gave much importance →theneedforsuchaprogrammeinthe\to the need for such a programme in the college. He encouraged the students for their laudable performances. The Ekushey Book Fair Held in Bangla Academy Premises Sujon, Staff Reporter. The Daily Star. Dhaka; 2 February 2019: Ekushey Book Fair is organized by Bangla Academy every year. The fair was held in the Bangla Academy Premises. This year, the fair was visited by all types of people irrespective of caste, creed and colour. There was a huge number of books on various subjects in many stalls of different publishers. The main thing about a book fair was not sale but the display of books on different subjects by different writers. Many novice writers wish to start their career from a book fair. The book lovers purchased books according to their choice. There was a chance of comparing books of different writers published by different publishers. However, there were some mismanagements too. Some stalls were found selling snacks and thus polluting the premises. And they were badly managed. These stalls were polluting the environment of the fair and some people coming in the fair felt bothered to see the nasty environment of the fair. In fine, we can say that a book fair is very important for the enlightened section of the people.

Staff Reporter, 27 March 2019: The Independence Day′wasobservedwithgreatenthusiasmandduesolemnityinthepremisesofDhakaCollegeDay^{\prime} was observed with great enthusiasm and due solemnity in the premises of Dhaka College yesterday. A special committee was formed earlier →celebratethe\to celebrate the day. The Assistant Professor, Mr. Mafidul Islam Chowdhury was the head of this 7-member committee. The committee launched on the occasion a number of programmes including discussion meeting, milad mahfil, etc. The college premises were decorated beautifully. An artistic gate was built at the entrance of the college field. Some special guests as well as our guardians were invited →attendthe\to attend the programmes. At 7 am, the programme began with the hoisting of our national flag by the Principal. Students brought out à colourful procession and paraded round the main street of the city. Then a discussion meeting was held in the college auditorium. The Chairman of Dhaka Education Board, Mr. Rafiqul Islam was the chief guest. He delivered an important speech full of patriotic zeal. Among others, Mr. Motaher Hussain, Mr. Saleh Ahmad and on behalf of the students this reporter spoke on the occasion. The Principal, Mr. Shafiqur Rahman presided at the meeting. At the end, a milad and doa mahfil was held. Maulana Nur Ahmed conducted it.

By eating adulterated foods people are suffering from many diseases of heart, liver, lung, kidney, etc. Recently mobile courts have launched campaigns in the main cities of the country. The mobile courts have found that food adulteration is occurring on a large scale across the country. The mobile courts have found unsafe levels of pesticides especially formalin in various food items. They have discovered that fishes, vegetables, fruits are seriously adulterated with formalin. They have also found unsafe amounts of pesticides in milk, milk products and some items of manufactured food. We know formalin is used to preserve the dead body. But to our great horror, this poisonous element is being used on large scale to preserve food items. Consequently, people are suffering greatly. In fact, by eating these adulterated foods, people irrespective of age are meeting an immature death. Hopefully, the government is going to take strict measures against the culprits who are involved in adulterating food items by mixing formalin and other poisonous things with foods. In this respect, people from all walks of life must come forward and help the government to make this campaign a success.

Massive Fire Accident in a Garment Factory of Gazipur Munni, Staff Reporter. The Daily Star, Gazipur: 20 December 2019: A devastating fire yesterday gutted Ha-Mim Garment at Gazipur, leaving a total of 31 people dead. The cause of the fire in the factory is still unknown. Smoke engulfed the entire building as a result of which the people inside the building could not come out in spite of their best efforts. The Fire Brigade and Civil Defence rushed to the spot immediately to extinguish the fire. The Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Air Force also sent their personnel and helicopters to rescue the affected people. Even the people from all walks of life joined the rescue operation spontaneously. After working hard for nearly 8 hours, the Fire Brigade and Civil Defence in collaboration with the other agencies succeeded in extinguishing the fire. The fire took 31 lives and many others got severely wounded. The wounded persons were admitted to different hospitals and clinics of the city. The govt has formed a 3- member inquiry committee to ascertain the cause of the fire.

But most of them are browsing various websites with the aid of Facebook. They mainly like to browse the nude websites. As a result, they are being degraded morally. Influenced by Facebook, some of them are involved in immoral activities. Most of the school-going students waste their valuable time in using Facebook. Since they cannot use Facebook in front of their parents, they use their Facebook at night being the door of their bedroom in the name of reading books. The speakers opined drug addiction has become a serious problem in our country. Not only unemployed young people but also students are becoming addicted to drugs. It is noticed that a good number of students studying at colleges and universities are addicted to various kinds of drugs. Many brilliant students mixing with depraved and immoral men or students, get addicted to drugs. As a result, these addicted students are gradually getting ruined. Drugs gradually lead the addicts to death. And horrifyingly, drug addiction is rapidly spreading among the young generation. According to the most of the speakers, the main reasons behind drug addiction are depression. unhappy familial experience, disappointment in love, bad company and availability of the drugs. Drug addiction has a great negative impact on educational institutions. Addicted students get destroyed and they also spoil the congenial atmosphere of educational institutions. Drug addicted students commit various crimes to collect money. It has been noticed that some addicted students have assaulted or even killed their parents for money. Many meritorious students are being led to this path of destruction. If this evil practice is not stopped, the nation is bound to be spoilt greatly.

After placing floral wreaths in the Shaheed Minar, the students arranged a cultural function at the college auditorium. Many students performed through patriotic and traditional songs and dances with traditional instruments. The whole campus wore a festive look as it was decorated with colourful flags and festoons. Boat Capsize in Karnaphuli with Over 25 Passengers Salam. Chattogram. April 7, 2019 : Three women died when a boat carrying 25 passengers capsized in the Karnaphuli yesterday. Witnesses said, an overloaded passenger boat capsized in the river Karnaphuli at 4 pm when a gusty wind began to blow. Some people were able to swim ashore while some others were rescued by a fishing trawler that was passing by. However, the trawler could not rescue all the passengers. Members of the Fire Brigade recovered three dead bodies from the river after an hour of the incident. The victims were identified as Salma (40). Shewli (35) and Jaheda (45) who were all residents of Feni. Some passengers are still missing. The bodies were sent to the Chattogram Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
