The Daily Star, Gazipur: 20 December 2019: A devastating fire yesterday gutted Ha-Mim Garment at Gazipur, leaving a total of 31 people dead. The cause of the fire in the factory is still unknown. Smoke engulfed the entire building as a result of which the people inside the building could not come out in spite of their best efforts. The Fire Brigade and Civil Defence rushed to the spot immediately to extinguish the fire. The Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Air Force also sent their personnel and helicopters to rescue the affected people. Even the people from all walks of life joined the rescue operation spontaneously. After working hard for nearly 8 hours, the Fire Brigade and Civil Defence in collaboration with the other agencies succeeded in extinguishing the fire. The fire took 31 lives and many others got severely wounded. The wounded persons were admitted to different hospitals and clinics of the city. The govt has formed a 3- member inquiry committee to ascertain the cause of the fire.
