Drug Addiction Drug addiction means a strong desire for a drug which an addict cannot resist. In other words, taking an excess of drugs for no physical disease but to get rid of imaginary frustration, is called drug addiction. Narcotics like opium, morphine, heroine, marijuana, cocaine, etc. are commonly used by the addicts in our country. Drug addiction is a serious problem for a society or a country. People especially the young ones get addicted to drug for a great variety of reasons. Frustration tops the list. Unemployment, political anarchy, lack of family ties, lack of love and affection, etc. lead to frustration which ultimately leads them to drug addiction. The after-effects of drug addiction are terrible. When the drug addicts are unable to afford to buy drugs, they commit social crimes like hijacking, stealing, robbery, etc. These problems cause social anarchy. Drugs tell on the human body terribly. They kill slowly but surely. Drug addicts feel drowsy, lose their appetite and sleep. Their brains are damaged to meet death. In order to remove the curse of drug addiction from society, we have to create consciousness of the dreadful consequences of drug addiction among the teenagers and the young generation. Parents must be careful about the adolescent boys and girls. At the same time, facilities of employment and recreation have to be ensured so that the young people cannot approach to this destructive addiction. We can play a great role in the fight against drug addiction. We can arrange seminar, symposium on drug addiction and thus can raise consciousness among people of its serious effects upon human body.
