Read the following text and answer the questions: [Unit- 5; Lesson- 1(B)] The first thing education does is [গণিত] give us awareness about ourselves which leads [গণিত] the development of our personality. As we [গণিত] , we feel the need [গণিত] belong [গণিত] the class and make friends. We then expand our sense of belonging [গণিত] include the school at large, our community and finally our country. Education thus prepares every child [গণিত] become an active member of the community and work for its welfare. Education, it is believed, releases our potentials and our inner strengths. It sharpens our intellect and develops our creativity. As we are taught [গণিত] reason well and find solutions [গণিত] the problems of life, we become productive members of society. Education by definition is progressive and liberal, teaching us [গণিত] respect human diversity and cultural and religious differences. If all of us practise these values in life, the world becomes a much happier place. Education also fosters critical thinking and provides us a set of competencies including life skills that enable us [গণিত] become competitive even in the most challenging of circumstances. Education also teaches us [গণিত] appreciate beauty and the bounties of nature. School, however, is not the only place where a child gets education. A Bangla poem tells us that nature can be our best teacher. Here are a couple of lines from the poem in English translation: The sky has taught me [গণিত] be liberal. The wind has given me the motto [গণিত] be industrious. If we can make nature our friend, philosopher and guide, we can learn lessons about life that, combined with what our schools teach us, will prepare us for the future. Q. (a) What does education provide us?(b) Can education be a catalyst in constructing a world of harmony and happiness?(c) How does education make us fit [গণিত] survive in different challenges?(d) What characteristics of education discourage us [গণিত] become conservative and parochial?(e) Elucidate the role of nature as our "friend, philosopher, and guide".

উত্তর: (a) Education provides us a set of competencies including life skills that enable us to become competitive even in the most challenging of circumstances. It also provides us with the teaching of appreciating beauty and the bounties of nature.(b) Yes, education promotes values like respect, human diversity and intellectual growth which are essential for creating a harmonious and happy world.(c) Education equips us with life skills, critical thinking abilities, and competencies to face challenging circumstances and adapt to changing situations.(d) Education fosters liberal thinking, open-mindedness and respect for diversity which counteract conservative and narrow-minded views.(e) Only learning in schools cannot make us a consummate or complete individual. To be a worthy man we have many things to learn from nature. Because nature teaches us to be generous and industrious. So, if we make nature our friend, philosopher and guide, we can learn lessons about life. And lessons learnt from nature coupled with the learning in educational institutions can prepare us well for the future.

4.Write down the theme of the following poem within 50 words. Because I have seen Bengal's face, I will seek no more, The world has not anything more beautiful to show me. Waking up in darkness, gazing at the fig-tree, I behold Dawn's swallows roosting under huge umbrella-like leaves. I look around me and discover a leafy dome, Jaam, Kanthal, Bat, Hijol and Aswatha trees all in a hush, Shadowing clumps of cactus and zedoary bushes. When long, long ago, Chand came in his honeycombed boat To a blue Hijal, Bat, Tamal shade near the Champa, he too sighted Bengal's incomparable beauty. One day, alas, in the Ganguri, On a raft, as the waning moon sank on the river's sandbanks, Behula too saw countless aswaths bats besides golden ricefields And heard the thrush's soft song, One day, arriving, in Amara, Where gods held court, when she danced like a desolate wagtail, Bengal's rivers, fields, flowers, wailed like strings of bells on her feet.

(Not more than 50 words) [Unit-8; Lesson-2 (B)] Those Winter Sundays by- Robert Hayden Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueback cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him. I'd wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. When the rooms were warm, he'd call, and slowly I would rise and dress, fearing the chronic angers of that house, Speaking indifferently to him, who had driven out the cold and polished my good shoes as well. What did I know, what did I know of love's austere and lonely offices?
