Explain the statement.(c) Comment on Nelson Mandela's reconciliation-based political strategy.(d) Why is Mandela called a leader of mythic stature?(e) "Don't call me. I'll call you". How will you evaluate this statement?
উত্তর: (a) Apartheid is an evil policy of racial segregation which formerly prevailed in South Africa. This inhuman policy involved political, economic and legal discrimination against the black people there. As a black man, Nelson Mandela noticed how cruelly the white people of South Africa deprived them of all human rights and treated them. All these shocked Mandela so profoundly that he resolved to eradicate this inhuman policy. And finally, he succeeded though he had to suffer tremendously in the process. (b) Mandela in his acceptance speech on becoming the first black President of South Africa saíd this. It signifies that as they have got rid of apartheid, now they should work unitedly forgetting all the sad memories of the cursed time, and thus remove all the evils that divided them. In other words, they getting rid of racial segregation, can eradicate all the differential evils existing among them and thus can live together in harmony and with equal rights or opportunities. (c) Nelson Mandela's reconciliation-based political strategy was really astonishing. Though the black people of South Africa were innocent victims of apartheid and thus were deprived of their human rights, Mandela never adopted any violent way and pushed the country towards a civil war. Instead, all through his struggle, he stuck to peaceful movement. He wanted to rouse the humanity in the white leaders and to make them understand the eternal truth that all humans are created equal and so there should be no discrimination among them. (d) Nelson Mandela, imprisoned for nearly three decades, guided South Africa from the shackles of apartheid to multi-racial democracy, as an icon of peace and reconciliation. He came to embody the struggle for justice around the world. He was determined to bring down apartheid, avoiding a civil war. His decades behind bars made him the world's most celebrated political prisoner which made him a leader of mythic stature for millions of oppressed people far beyond his country's borders. (e) Mandela was the speaker of this historical statement who uttered these words on the eve of his retirement from public life. He fought for the major part of his life for his people's political emancipation. At last, his ardent desire got realized and he worked as the president of South Africa. Now being tired and old, he uttered these words. He said this to mean that his people were politically free and so he did not need to work at that time but if he felt any need in future, he would call the people to rise and work again against any evil. In fact, he wanted to spend the rest of his days in complete peace.
