Our Country The name of our country is Bangladesh. She is a small South-Asian country. She is situated in the temperate zone of the world. She achieved her freedom at the cost of a sea of blood on the 16th December, 1971 from the tyrannical rule of the Pakistani rulers. The capital of Bangladesh is Dhaka. In our country, there are different communities of people. They are the followers 'of different religions. The religions of the Muslims, the Hindus, the Christians and the Buddhists are Islam, Hinduism, Christianity and the Buddhism respectively. The people of various tribes live in our country in religious harmony. Bangladesh is a land of different customs and festivals. A lot of festivals are observed here round the year. The Muslims observe Eid ul-Fitr, Eid ul-Azha, the Muharram, etc. The Hindus have many religious festivals like the Durga Puja, the Saraswati Puja, the Laxmi Puja and the Kali Puja. The Christians observe the Christmas Day and the Buddhists observe the Buddha Purnima. Besides these religious festivals, there are some secular festivals like Pahela Boishakh, the Independence Day, the Victory Day, etc. Since Bangladesh is the darling child of nature, she has got some attractive tourist spots. They are Cox's Bazar seabeach, Kuakată sea beach, the Sundarbans, the Shatgambuj Mosque, the Buddhist Vihara of Paharpur and so on.

Drug Addiction Drug addiction means a strong desire for a drug which an addict cannot resist. In other words, taking an excess of drugs for no physical disease but to get rid of imaginary frustration, is called drug addiction. Narcotics like opium, morphine, heroine, marijuana, cocaine, etc. are commonly used by the addicts in our country. Drug addiction is a serious problem for a society or a country. People especially the young ones get addicted to drug for a great variety of reasons. Frustration tops the list. Unemployment, political anarchy, lack of family ties, lack of love and affection, etc. lead to frustration which ultimately leads them to drug addiction. The after-effects of drug addiction are terrible. When the drug addicts are unable to afford to buy drugs, they commit social crimes like hijacking, stealing, robbery, etc. These problems cause social anarchy. Drugs tell on the human body terribly. They kill slowly but surely. Drug addicts feel drowsy, lose their appetite and sleep. Their brains are damaged to meet death. In order to remove the curse of drug addiction from society, we have to create consciousness of the dreadful consequences of drug addiction among the teenagers and the young generation. Parents must be careful about the adolescent boys and girls. At the same time, facilities of employment and recreation have to be ensured so that the young people cannot approach to this destructive addiction. We can play a great role in the fight against drug addiction. We can arrange seminar, symposium on drug addiction and thus can raise consciousness among people of its serious effects upon human body. At the same time, we can rehabilitate the addicts by taking them to the rehabilitation centres.

There are good roads for comfortable transport, electricity for physical comfort, good schools, colleges, madrasahs, universities, technical centres for education, good hospitals and clinics for proper medical treatment and well furnished shops and stores to meet all our needs. For recreation and pastime, we have clubs, libraries, museums, concert halls, etc. There is a good facility for trade, commerce and industry in the town. In fact, both rural and urban life have some specific advantages which are relative in consideration of contest.

Deforestation The cutting down of trees indiscriminately to meet up the basic needs of food and housing and thus destroying the ecological balance, is called deforestation. There are many recent examples of massive deforestation. For example, Sumatra and Borneo have lost over half of the rainforest that existed only 30 years ago to enhance palm oil and acacia tree plantations. In addition, recently there have been 19,925 fire outbreaks in the Amazon. For the increasing number of population, we need more schools, colleges, offices, business establishments and various sorts of furniture. So, we cut down many trees. Moreover, in many parts of Bangladesh, people are to depend on wood for cooking their food. To make fire, they cut down trees. This cutting down of trees is deforestation which has many adverse effects. Deforestation disturbs our ecological balance. Animals and birds living in the forests are on the verge of extinction due to deforestation. Inadequate number of trees causes drought and drought damages crops. When crops do not grow as much as we require, there happens famine. Deforestation may cause desertification in many parts of the world which will pose a serious threat to our living. As a result of deforestation, carbon dioxide is increasing worldwide making the world warmer. It also causes the rise of sea level and thereby floods coastal areas and farmlands. Deforestation exerts many adverse effects on climate, agriculture and our life. We should try to stop deforestation and plant more and more trees. To prevent deforestation, some pragmatic steps should be taken. A social movement should be launched to prevent deforestation. Social awareness should be raised regarding the adverse effects of deforestation.

Launching Bangabandhu Satellite-1 in the space is certainly a great step on the part of Bangladesh. In compliance with the scientifically and technologically developed countries, Bangladesh launched this satellite so that it can play an important role in our information technology, entertainment, weather forecast, etc. With sending the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 to the orbit, Bangladesh has become the 57th country to launch ă geostationary communication satellite. The Bangabandhu Satellite-1 is the first Bangladeshi geostationary communications and broadcasting satellite. It was manufactured by Thales Alenia Space and launched on 11 May 2018. The project is being implemented by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and was the first payload launched by a Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket of space X. The satellite is expected to play a great role in developing the socio- economic condition of our country. The satellite is to establish Bangladesh's own stake on the space opening up enormous opportunities providing three types of advantages involving fields of information and communication technology (ICT) and broadcasting industry alongside brightening Bangladesh's image. The satellite will offer video services for Direct to Home (DTH), e-learning, tele-medicine, family planning, farming, etc. while voice service to cellular backhaul and disaster recovery, etc. and data service for Internet, SCADA, SOHO as well as business to business (VSAT). Bangabandhu Satellite-1 is a huge scientific and technological step forward on the part of Bangladesh. And this success will encourage us in future in various fields.
