Munshi Abdur Rouf was a Lance Nayek in East Pakistan Rifles. He was recruited in the East Bengal Regiment in 1971 and was assigned to a regular foot soldier unit during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. He underwent martyrdom on 8 April 1971 at Burighat in Chattogram Hill Tracts after causing heavy casualty to the Pakistan Army. He was buried at Naniarchar upazila in Rangamati district. In recognition of his supreme sacrifice, he was accorded Bir Sreshtho, the highest state award in Bangladesh.
