উত্তর: Food Adulteration Food adulteration has become a serious problem in our country in recent years. Any harmful ingredients or substance added to a food item in order to increase its quality, preserve it for a long time or make it appealing is called food adulteration. This act of addition of adulterants to food items is known as food adulteration. Food manufacturers, restaurants, fast – food outlets and so forth are all involved in a one way or another in this malpractice. Different types of food items like milk, milk products, fish, fruits and vegetables are found contaminated by poisonous chemicals and banned pesticides such as DDT, Aldrin, Chlordane, Heptachlor etc. Turmeric powder is contaminated by lead chromate. Sometimes, food items are given artificial colours to make them bright and attractive to the customers. Again excessive amount of preservative is used to preserve food for a longer period. The main reason of food adulteration is to increase the profit margin. It is an awful offence committed by the greedy businessmen for a quick and a larger profit. Adulterants reduce the quality of the food items and damage the health of the customers seriously. Regular consumption of adulterated foods can lead to a vital health problem. Different reports show that adulterated foods are causing serious diseases including diarrhoea, dysentery, diabetes, cancer, heart attack, brain stroke etc round the year. Moreover, food adulteration is a heinous crime in our country. It must be eradicated from immediately. The criminals have to be identified and punished them strongly. Especially, the Government has set mobile phone courts to detect and punish the dishonest people. But it is not possible for the Government to solve the problem alone. All the common people should come forward and raise their voice again this fatal food adulteration in our country.
