Read the passage and answer the questions A :— Beauty is easy [গণিত] appreciate but difficult [গণিত] define. As we look around, we discover beauty in pleasurable objects and sights — in nature, in the laughter of children, in the kindness of strangers. But asked [গণিত] define, we run into difficulties. Does beauty have an independent objective identity? Is it universal, or is it dependent on our sense perceptions? Does it lie in the eye of the beholder? —we ask ourselves. A further difficulty arises when beauty manifests itself not only by its presence, but by its absence as well, as when we are repulsed by ugliness and desire beauty. But then ugliness has as much a place in our lives as beauty, or may be more as when there is widespread hunger and injustice in a society. Philosophers have told us that beauty is an important part of life, but isn't ugliness a part of life too? And if art has beauty as an important ingredient, can it confine itself only [গণিত] a projection of beauty? Can art ignore what is not beautiful? Poets and artists have provided an answer by incorporating both into their work. In doing so, they have often tied beauty [গণিত] truth and justice, so that what is not beautiful assumes a tolerable proportion as something that represents some truth about life. John Keats, the romantic poet, wrote in his celebrated 'Ode on a Grecian Urn [গণিত] , 'Beauty is truth, truth beauty [গণিত] , by which he means that truth, even if it's not pleasant, becomes beautiful at a higher level. Similarly, what is beautiful forever remains true. Another meaning, in the context of the Grecian Urn — an art object — is that truth is a condition of art. Choose the correct answer from the alternatives : — The word "appreciate" means —

5.Read the following text and answer the questions. [Unit- 5; Lesson- 5(New)] I was born in Tuckahoe, near Hillsborough, and about twelve miles from Easton, in Talbot county, Maryland. I have no accurate knowledge of my age, never having seen any authentic record containing it. By far the larger part of the slaves know as little of their ages as horses know of theirs, and it is the wish of most masters within my knowledge →keeptheirslavesthus\to keep their slaves thus ignorant. I do not remember →haveevermetaslavewhocouldtellofhis\to have ever met a slave who could tell of his birthday. They seldom come nearer →itthan\to it than planting-time, harvest-time, cherry-time, spring-time, or fall-time. A want of information concerning my own was à source of unhappiness →meevenduring\to me even during childhood. The white children could tell their ages. I could not tell why I ought →bedeprivedofthesame\to be deprived of the same privilege. I was not allowed →makeanyinquiriesofmymasterconcerning\to make any inquiries of my master concerning it. He deemed all such inquiries on the part of a slave improper and impertinent, and evidence of a restless spirit. The nearest estimate I can give makes me now between twenty-seven and twenty-eight years of age. I come →\to this; from hearing my master say, sometime during 1835, I was about seventeen years old. My mother was named Harriet Bailey. She was the daughter of Isaac and Betsey Bailey, both colored, and quite dark. My mother was of a darker complexion than either my grandmother or grandfather. My father was a white man. He was admitted →besuchbyallIeverheardspeakofmy\to be such by all I ever heard speak of my parentage. The opinion was also whispered that my master was my father; but of the correctness of this opinion, I know nothing; the means of knowing was withheld from me. My mother and I were separated when I was but an infant - before I knew her as my mother. It is a common custom, in the part of Maryland from which I ran away, →partchildrenfromtheirmothersataveryearly\to part children from their mothers at a very early age. Frequently, before the child has reached its twelfth month, its mother is taken from it, and hired out on some farm a considerable distance off, and the child is placed under the care of an old woman, too old for field labor. For what this separation is done, I do not know, unless it be →hinderthedevelopmentofthe\to hinder the development of the child's affection toward its mother, and →bluntanddestroythenaturalaffectionofthemotherforthe\to blunt and destroy the natural affection of the mother for the child. A.
