One day, a satyr named Silenus was found sleeping in his rose garden. King Midas treated him kindly and returned him to the god Dionysus. Pleased with Midas, Dionysus granted him a wish. Midas, without a second thought, wished that everything he touched would turn into gold. The next morning, he woke up to find his wish had come true. His bed, clothes, and furniture all turned to gold at his touch. He was overjoyed. However, his joy soon turned to despair when he tried to eat. The food and water in his hands turned into solid gold. He realized he would starve to death. The worst moment came when his beloved daughter ran to hug him, and she too turned into a lifeless golden statue. Heartbroken and terrified, King Midas begged Dionysus to take back the cursed wish. The god took pity on him and told him to wash his hands in the river Pactolus to undo the spell. Midas rushed to the river and was relieved to find the golden touch gone. He learned a valuable lesson that greed leads to misery and that love and life are far more precious than gold.
