On their way, a gang of fierce robbers attacked the caravan. They started looting money and valuables from everyone. One of the robbers came to the young boy and asked, "Boy, do you have anything with you?" Remembering his mother's advice, Abdul Quadir replied calmly, "Yes, I have forty gold coins." The robber laughed, thinking it was a joke, and left him. Another robber asked him the same question, and he gave the same answer. Puzzled, the robbers took him to their leader. The leader asked him again, and Abdul Quadir repeated his answer, showing them where the coins were hidden. The leader was astonished and asked, "Why did you tell the truth when you could have hidden it?" The boy replied, "My mother advised me never to tell a lie."
