উত্তর: The Padma Bridge The Padma Bridge is a multipurpose road-rail bridge across the river Padma. The construction of the bridge started on December 7, 2014 and was inaugurated on 25 June 2022. It is the largest bridge in Bangladesh. It connects Mawa of Munshiganj to Jajira of Shariatpur. The bridge links the south- west of the country, to northern and eastern regions. It is the most challenging construction project in the history of Bangladesh. It is a two-level steel truss bridge. It carries a four-lane highway on the upper level and a single track railway on the lower level. The length of the bridge is 6.15 km while the width is 18.8 m. The bridge has a total of 42 pillars. Steel spans have been placed on the pillars. The bridge has a total of 41 spans and the length of every span is 150 m. By 10 December 2020 all the pillars and spans were set up. Initially the cost of the bridge was estimated tk. 10,161 crore on the basis of feasibility study. After several revisions, the cost rose to tk. 30,193 crore. The project was funded by the Government of Bangladesh. The Padma Bridge connects the country's south western region with the capital via road and rail. The 6.15 km-long bridge connects the capital with 21 southwestern districts. It will play a very important role in the economic development of the country. It is expected that the bridge will boost the country's GDP by 1.2 percent.
